Oh, so THAAAAT's how you do a wicked table!
Just jump, pull the bike, and have fun!

Well, Here's my instructional for getting all the tricks in the book dialed, in 5 easy steps:

1) Find a sick ramp, and launch it.
2) Perform the trick you wish to do (there ain't much to it!)
3) Play with your bike in the air
4) have fun!
5) stick the landing.

This would be a better trick taught by someone who has actually takin months to learn the trick. For someone who this comes natural too, he probably thinks its easy, and it is just popping and getting flat. They shoulda gotten someone like Simmons or Tippie.

flag leon-forfar (Apr 27, 2011 at 22:12)
honestly, the explaination wasnt that bad. there is not much more to a table, i think the only thing he could have really added was rotate your wrist and shove the arm in the armpit (where as he just said pull the bike to you). but its a super basic trick with not alot behind it. the main thing is to just keep trying it, because like trying anything new, it will be awkward until you've practiced enough. but super basic trick. cant really say much more than he said...

$10 says kaibrabo does hideous bowlegged mtb tables.

The legs will NOT follow, YOU need to tuck them over the toptube. Brandon is one of MAYBE 5 or 6 mtb riders I've ever seen actually do a proper table (toward your front foot, knees over the toptube, both feet on the pedals), and this was a teaser for a coaching session, not a coaching session itself.

It's rad you're out there learning, and it's not like I could do much better, but your knee's not over the toptube and you're tabling to your back foot.

hes not tabling to his back foot, his cranks have just dropped. thats how you do them. but eventually ur foot just comes off and the cranks will stay normal when ur cracking them big http://www.pinkbike.com/photo/6024802/

sometimes there's just 1 key point that pops out at you that's helpful that will make the whole vid worth it. This is a quick & concise rundown on how to table... goodstuff!

flag Phil-rides-a-bike (May 6, 2011 at 18:05)
Exactly, its up to the rider to be practicing/trying it and working out their own way of doing it, then a simple tip might just give you what it takes to get it the rest of the way there. Thats what i learned with tailwhips, 1 simple tip helped to completely change what was going wrong then they just came! Only thing he left out was rolling your hand/wrist round the bar as you tuck it up.

Give em a brake, if everyone was sticking a camera in front of your face, I doubt any of you could give better instruction. Very few people are good teachers even if they are good riders. Semenuk is a great rider but he's just a kid, not a seasoned teacher.
  • + 3
flag antmav (Apr 27, 2011 at 11:27)
I guarantee 99.9% of the people out there that can table top could give better instruction. But I don't blame Semenuk, I blame the producers of the vid. He's just a rider and doing what the 'suits' are telling him to do in video. When the producers of this horrendous video saw the final product, they should have have named it "Semenuk sticking a sweet table", not , "How to table top....."

Certainly doesn't inspire me to peel thousands of dollars off my roll to send my kid to SGC. Tools. "Find a jump, roll into into it, Pop it, opposing shoulder, knees over top tube, bike will follow, blah blah, blah" hahahahahaha What a joke.

watch these BMX vids to learn: http://www.google.com/#q=how+to+tabletop+BMX&hl=en&prmd=ivns&source=lnms&tbm=vid&ei=sxy4TbqoEMuDtgfnu-TeBA&sa=X&oi=mode_link&ct=mode&cd=3&sqi=2&ved=0CA4Q_AUoAg&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&fp=cca65d00ac6ff6dd

I can tell you that this is a trick that can take YEARS to master even though it looks easy, and even then you can still work on getting them better. Doing them on a hip will make it 1000 times easier. It doesn't matter which foot is forward on the pedals.
1) LOOSEN your grip on the bars going into the trick. Some people roll there hand under the grip, but if you just stay LOOSE on the bike it will be much easier because your feet will move around on the pedals a little bit.
2) Push your fist through your armpit while at the same time throwing your leg into/over the toptube. If you are jumping a hip, especially one that is 30-45 degrees the bike wants to lay flat naturally...all you gotta do is turn the bars towards the sky and put your knee over the toptube. Once you know how it feels you can do them on straight jumps, but they feel different. You have to focus a lot more on just using your arms and legs, rather than twisting your hips.
Hope this helps!
